Sarah & Mike Walmer Castle
Saturday, 5th September Sarah and Mike were married in the beautiful grounds of Walmer Castle in Kent. Keeping in with a family tradition the guys braved a morning dip into the sea, unfortunately I had to hold the camera and could not join in the fun! The ceremony was held in the grounds in the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Garden. The day was beautiful and the weather was a true sunny September day with the evening sun working its magic for the bride and groom romantic shots!
Walmer Castle was originally built during the reign of Henry VIII as part of a chain of coastal artillery defences against Catholic attack from Europe, Walmer Castle has evolved over time into an elegant residence. One of its most famous inhabitants was the Duke of Wellington.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother made regular visits to the castle. Some of the rooms used by the Queen Mother are open to visitors, as is her magnificent garden, given to Her Majesty on her 95th birthday. The current Lord Warden is Admiral Michael Boyce, Baron Boyce, who was appointed in 2004.
The beautiful gardens surrounding the house also include a commemorative lawn, woodland walk, croquet lawn and a working kitchen garden. The remainder of the grounds are mostly wildlife gardens, a great place to spot birds.
